Powerball prize now 10th largest after months without winner

Powerball prize now 10th largest after months without winner

One lucky person could become a multi-millionaire after Wednesday night's Powerball drawing.

According to the Virginia Lottery, there were almost 45,000 winning tickets in the Commonwealth, but none drawn in Virginia or anywhere in the United States matched the six numbers. The largest Powerball jackpot in history was won on January 13, 2016, and was a whopping $1.58 billion.

In the 2015-16 fiscal year, in addition to awarding more than $88.6 million in prizes to Luzerne County winners, the Pennsylvania Lottery contributed more than $36.6 million to programs serving the county's older residents.

Jamaicans are legally entitled to play Powerball in this manner, because Powerball tickets purchased in OR through theLotter never leave the state. Some people have been buying 10 plays or more because the jackpot is so high. The last victor got $60 million on April 1 in Arizona, lottery officials said.

Someone who purchased a Powerball ticket from a Fountain Valley gas station is $1.6 million richer, the California Lottery said Thursday, June 8.

Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Players may select their own numbers or let the terminal make the selection for them via a Quick Pick (QP) ticket.

The odds for winning the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. The jackpot is now worth $435 million if a victor chooses an annuity payout, or $273.1 million cash if it's paid out in a lump sum.

And $2 million wasn't the only big win in North Carolina Wednesday night.
