Judge denies request to restart Shkreli jury selection

Prospective jurors claim they couldn't be impartial. "My kids are on some of these drugs".

He is accused of fraud relating to a drug company he previously headed, Retrophin, and a hedge fund, where he was a manager.

"Who does that?" she said.

"Who does that? A person who puts profit over everything else", another prospective juror said while mimicking wringing Shkreli's neck.

Martin Shkreli arrives at Brooklyn Federal Court on the first day of his securities fraud trial on June 26, 2017 in Brooklyn, New York.

One said she had not known what the trial was about when she walked in and saw Mr. Shkreli.

"Who does that?" the woman said.

All the admittedly biased potential jurors were excused, as were many others who simply had scheduling conflicts.

"I think [Shkreli is] a very evil man", one juror told U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto in Brooklyn.

"I'm anticipating an article, a piece, that will further complicate the already complicated job of defending someone so many people feel strongly about", he said.

In a pre-trial hearing last week, prosecutor Alixandra Smith said that Shkreli often bought the domain names of reporters who wrote about him in order to annoy them.

Specifically, prosecutors say, Shkreli violated federal law when he managed two hedge funds during that time and swindled investors.

"I understand that, but everything I've seen", the man began, before Mr. Brafman signaled by lifting his hand that he was challenging the man for cause.

After the juror who called Shkreli a "snake" stepped down, reporters heard Brafman utter, "So much for the presumption of innocence".

Authorities have charged 16-year-old Eliza Wasni in Nelson's death, saying she stole a machete and knife from Walmart early on May 30 and then got into Nelson's vehicle and brutally attacked him.

At least three other jurors mistakenly believed Shkreli was responsible for raising the cost of EpiPen - an allergy injection - and could therefore not be fair toward him. Dozens more were dismissed for medical reasons or vacation plans.

Nearly 180 possible jurors were brought in for questioning on Monday.

Jury selection in the case resumes today.
