RED Hydrogen One is a super expensive holographic smartphone

RED has announced a premium smartphone by the name of Hydrogen One that will feature a display with the capability to switch "seamlessly between traditional 2D content, holographic multi-view content, 3D content and interactive games". Red's smartphone, named Hydrogen One, features a holographic display. Along with that the phone's screen is capable of displaying "holographic RED Hydrogen 4-View content (H4V)", "stereo 3D content" and "2D/3D VR, AR (augmented reality) and MR (mixed reality)".

At the same time, there's a new H3O algorithm that RED promises will turn regular stereo audio into multi-dimensional sound. Further, the company has mentioned that this new smartphone will come in two variants i.e. Titanium and Aluminum and will be priced at $1595 (approx Rs. 109000) and $1195 (approx Rs. 77000) respectively. With one fell swoop. the future of personal communication, information gathering, holographic multi-view, 2D, 3D, AR/VR/MR, and image capture just changed forever.

Jim Jannard, the billionaire founder of RED as well as glasses and clothing manufacturer Oakley, said the "incredible" holographic display is driven by technology that consumers haven't seen before. Sadly, we're yet to see images - either still or in motion - of the "holographic display" in action, so your guess is as good as ours. Early birds will receive a special small token.

At the moment, the details regarding Hydrogen One are thin. The 3.5mm headphone jack is still present and is accompanied by what appears to be a USB Type-C port.

And you will need to do a lot of justifying if you're considering a Hydrogen One as an impulse buy.

The phone is also modular too, with RED promising Hydrogen will be compatible with its camera products and an "ever-expanding modular component system".

But we will update you when we will get more updates about this phone. Addition accessories will be available at launch for extra charges.

The RED Hydrogen One doesn't have a release date, but the company says that it should start shipping during the first quarter of 2018.
