GameStop Delays All-You-Can-Play Used Game Rental Program, PowerPass

GameStop will also be offering full refunds for those who have already purchased the PowerPass service, provided they return their pass and the video game they have checked out.

For $60, customers could take home one used game at a time and keep it for up to six months. Once you return the game you can then check out another one.

The service, which soft-launched this week at some locations, is called PowerPass. Subscribers "can choose from any pre-owned video game in our catalog, from the throwback classics to the latest hits", Mooring said.

Regardless, it's worth noting that, according to Kotaku, GameStop employees have simply been instructed to remove PowerPass advertising from the front of their stores and place it in the back for safekeeping. At $60 for six months, it seems nearly like a steal considering that you get to keep a game to add to your collection. Although GameStop didn't get into specifics, it did confirm that it has made a decision to delay the introduction of the program - for now.

The plan wasn't fully scraped, per those sources, as they were supposed to store the materials in the back room, indicating they would be put to use in the future. Indeed, according to one GameStop spokesperson, the company has merely identified "a few program limitations" that they'd like to iron out to "ensure [they] are able to provide [their] guests an exceptional service".

GameStop released a statement that says the program has been "temporarily paused" due to "system glitches" that they had found in early releases of the program. To sweeten the deal, they can bring home any pre-owned game for free for their troubles. It's not clear when or if PowerPass will be open to the public again. Some GameStop employees told Kotaku they suspected it was a result of some of the chain's 7,000 stores having old computers.
