PV Sindhu defeated in Hong Kong Super Series final

Kowloon: PV Sindhu suffered a second successive loss in her gallant fight against world no. 1 Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei at the summit clash of the Dollars 400,000 Hong Kong Super Series here today. But not this time, as Tai was crowned the Hong Kong Super Series champion defeating the second seed Indian 21-18, 21-18. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal.

Ying, to her credit, put on a great performance, with shooting the shuttle to 352 kmph at the start of the first game, gaining lead on Sindhu instantly, as she kept missing or lagging behind.

Sindhu has now reached third final in the Superseries meets for the year.

Ratchanok Intanon's campaign in the Hong Kong Open ended at the semi-finals stage yesterday. She drew the Taiwanese shuttler close to the net and then started placing the shuttles in hard positions for her.

In the opening game Tai unleashed her wide range of strokes to lead 3-0 and then 7-2. But she still has some ways to go before she catches up to Tai Tzu-Ying and seriously challenges her for the World No.1 spot.

But after the break, Tai Tzu upped the ante and turned the heat on Sindhu, who had spent a lot of energy in containing the Taiwanese.

However, Tai dominated the proceedings after the interval, racing to 17-12.

In the second game, Sindhu fell behind early but fought back to 4-4 and 7-7.
