Latest Photos Of Melania Trump In The White House Spark Controversy

The theme goes hand-in-hand with President Trump's belief that America needs to restore the tradition in Christmas.

The White House unveiled its holiday decorations this week, issuing a video (below) of the Balsam fir trees sparkling with lights and ornaments adorning rooms throughout the White House.

First Lady Melania Trump proudly showed off DC's newest winter wonderland to children from Joint Base Andrews Monday.

Now President Trump has vowed to take on the so-called war on Christmas.

The record for the number of trees in the White House was held for many years by the Eisenhower administration when 26 trees filled every floor of the house. Trump has vowed to put "Christmas" back at the centre of the holidays.

The decorations continue a tradition that dates back decades.

The 350-pound (160-kilogram) gingerbread house in the State Dining Room offers a view of the White House from the South Lawn, with wreaths on every window and a USA flag flying from its sugary rooftop.

The first lady's office says the decorations are meant to honor traditions of the past. During the presidential campaign, he complained that saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" amounted to "chipping away at Christianity".

The White House said she personally chose every detail of the decor. There is also a gingerbread house, candy, and arts and crafts for the more than 25,000 visitors expected to pass through during the holiday season. Fifty-six Lego gingerbread houses, one for each state and USA territory, were nestled in the branches of the trees that decorated the State Dining Room.

The National Christmas Tree will be lit during a ceremony that starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, at the White House.

At last year's ceremony, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle feted Kelly Clarkson, Eva Longoria, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, Marc Anthony and Chance the Rapper.
