Franken resignation the right thing to do

Franken resignation the right thing to do

Franken thought continued to call some of the allegations false and that he remembered them differently. I want to thank the women of the United States Senate who stood up yesterday and said this can not continue.

Dupuy told CNN's Alisyn Camerota that Franken's speech and the venue where he delivered it were inappropriate.

"I look forward to working with our new Senator to help Minnesota families and stand up to President Trump and the Republicans' divisive agenda", McCollum said.

Democratic senators have come out in droves urging Franken resign, including several high-ranking female lawmakers.

"He's taking no ownership, and I just feel that he's calling all of us liars", she said.

Though the writing appeared to be on the wall, Franken's departure was not certain.

Franken issued a new apology in November, stating, "I feel terribly that I've made some women feel badly and for that I am so sorry, and I want to make sure that never happens again".

Franken returns to work and says he knows he "let a lot of people down".

Tweeden accused Franken of forcing himself on her with an unwanted kiss while they were rehearsing a USO Tour skit 11 years ago, and of groping her while she slept on an airplane at the end of the tour. "And there were", she said. She said she turned her head and he kissed her on the cheek.

After Tweeden came forward, multiple other women accused Franken of groping them. If he is innocent as he claims (he says some of the allegations were untrue and he remembers the rest differently than his accusers) and if he is as confident that the Ethics Committee would vindicate him as he says, he shouldn't be resigning.

The eight women who accused Franken triggered an avalanche of calls to step down by fellow Democratic senators on Wednesday, after which Franken's office announced his plans to give a Thursday resignation address.

Watch his resignation announcement below, via PBS News Hour. Tina Dupuy told the publication that Franken grabbed a handful of flesh around her waist and squeezed at least twice.

Dupuy authored the first-person account, "I Believe Franken's Accusers Because He Groped Me, Too", in The Atlantic on Wednesday, the day before Franken announced on the Senate floor that he would resign in the "coming weeks".

The "people like me" line is a reference to Franken's Saturday Night Live character Stuart Smalley, an awkward tv host who was known for stroking his own ego in a series called "Daily Affirmation".
