Abbas snubs US Vice President Pence over Jerusalem move

Abbas snubs US Vice President Pence over Jerusalem move

Turkey on December 9 condemned Israel's "use of disproportionate force" on Palestinians protesting the US president's recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Israel is blamed by the worldwide community for the deadlock of the peace process due to its settlement expansion policy, which is rejected even by its strongest ally, the United States.

"I hear (from Europe) voices of condemnation over President Trump's historic announcement but I have not heard any condemnation for the rocket firing against Israel that has come (after the announcement) and the very bad incitement against us", Netanyahu said.

The Israeli leader made the comments late Saturday as he left for talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and a rare meeting with European Union foreign ministers in Brussels. "That is not the man who is going to lecture us".

Erdogan has used his position as the current chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to call a summit of the pan-Islamic group on Wednesday.

The status of Jerusalem is deeply sensitive for Muslims, and protesters have taken to the streets in cities across the world following the policy shift.

"We will show that applying the measure will not be as easy as that", he added on Sunday.

Lebanese foreign minister called for the League to consider imposing sanctions on the US.

On Saturday, Erdogan slammed Trump, with Hurriyet quoting him as saying that "leading the world is not so easy".

Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb had rejected a request from the USA for Pence to meet him on 20 December at Al Azhar, the mosque said in a statement, adding that Trump must reverse his decision on Jerusalem. I'm sorry but. being strong does not give you such a right.

During that speech, he stressed the importance of Turkey's stability for the Muslim world.

He said it was "absurd" to deny the Jews' "ancient connection" to Jerusalem.

Erdogan's rhetoric is trickling down.

On Saturday, players on Turkish football teams Galatasaray and Akhisarspor held up a banner on Saturday before their game that read, "Jerusalem is our red line".
