Twitter Introduces New 'Threads' Feature for Posting Tweetstorms

On Tuesday, Twitter unveiled a new feature for people to tether multiple tweets into what was previously dubbed a tweetstorm but what Twitter is titling a "thread". This Add another Tweet feature is available for both Twitter mobile app as well as the desktop version.

Prolific tweeters like President Trump will soon be able to thread together tweets and publish them at the same time.

In order to create a tweet thread, you press the small + button at the bottom right of the tweet composer.

A related change makes it easier to add to an already published tweet or thread, which used to require hitting the "reply" button.

The need for tweetstorms became more pressing over the years, as users continually bumped up against Twitter's 140 character count limit - a restriction Twitter recently doubled, ahead of today's launch.

Threads will be rolled out to iOS, Android and Twitter.com users in the coming weeks, so make sure to keep your app updated. If someone has made a threaded tweet, you can click or tap on a new option called "Show this thread" to see everything at once. Repeat the process until your thread is complete, and then hit "tweet", and the entire thread will post all at once. And even after you post it, you can continue adding tweets in case you still have some thoughts on your mind or if it's an ongoing live tweet thing.

There are now hundreds of thousands of threads tweeted out every day, notes Twitter.

"This shows that more space makes it easier for people to fit thoughts in a Tweet, so they could say what they want to say, and send Tweets faster than before", Twitter said in a post at the time. Imagine some teen composing a twenty-tweet long thread about how much they hate somebody and dumping it on the internet. "That's where this update to threads comes in".
