Fiesta Bowl Washington vs Penn State: Preview and Prediction

But Penn State responded with two more touchdowns, the first being a Miles Sanders one-yard run and the second a Barkley 92-yard run.

Washington will certainly rely on the run game, but they are certainly not one-dimensional.

All was going well for Penn State at halftime of the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.

With three-fourths of the conference headed to bowl games, there was potential for the Pac-12 to have an impressive showing and prove that despite not having a team qualify for the College Football Playoff, it is still one of the better Power-5 conferences.

Washington's defense continued to have trouble slowing the Nittany Lions and McSorley threw another TD pass to Hamilton, a 24-yarder to put Penn State up 35-21.

Turnovers are what kept the door open for Washington, as McSorley was picked off twice and Penn State committed a total of three turnovers on the day.

To earn its first New Year's Six bowl game win under Franklin, Penn State will need to continue dominating at scrimmage, which it has done, and keep the mistakes and penalties to a minimum, which it has also done thus far. It was exposed, however, in games against Ohio State and Michigan State, but still wound up being ranked 17th nationally and fifth in the Big Ten.

Penn State will also be monitoring its offensive line, which struggled during the regular season before finding its rhythm down the stretch. The Nittany Lions seem to have made the desert their home-away-from-home.

"I think every team that makes some of these bigger bowl games that aren't in the playoffs wish they were in the playoff", Washington quarterback Jake Browning said.

This is another outstanding bowl match-up between two explosive teams that should come down to the wire. But, as Coach Petersen was quick to point out during his Fiesta Bowl media availability when asked if he told his Washington players about his Fiesta Bowl success as the coach of Boise State: "They don't care about that".

This year the Pac-12 saw Oregon, UCLA, Arizona, Stanford, Washington State, Arizona State, USC and Washington all lose and the Utes be the only team to pick up a win.

It's hard to imagine how different this game would've been if Washington's defense had been able to get off the field on third down. We weren't expecting to have bowl games for a long time.

This year's Fiesta Bowl should be very entertaining.

All four games feature marquee players.
