Mariah Carey Served Tea Sympathy on Twitter

Last time the superstar singer took center stage for the "Rockin'" event, what followed was a disastrous set that ended with her giving up on the act while prerecorded vocals continued on without her. Carey later said that it left her "mortified".

It paid off. In a made-for-television act of pop culture redemption, Carey's performance made it to the finish line, except for the desire for hot tea. "Just want to take a sip of tea if they'll let me", she told the audience between songs as she looked for the missing beverage.

She then declared, "I'm gonna be just like everybody else with no hot tea". Naturally, Twitter had some thoughts on the moment.

On the Dick Clark Productions side, they knew that she would draw the kind of ratings they wanted to see.

Carey is known for being a diva and with her past reality programs, HSN shopping infomercials, and headline-worthy appearances has a reputation for being a woman who celebrates the luxuries in life.

It was cold af in NYC last night, so the fact that Mimi pulled off the live singing performance is a testament to her star power. "We didn't have a sound check for this New Year's baby, it is what it is.Get these monitors on please", she said. It's a disaster. O.K. Well, we'll just have to rough it.

Halfway through her show in Times Square, the 47-year-old stopped to ask for some "hot tea" to be brought on stage.

Even without the tea, Carey's performance gathered strength throughout the set without any obvious glitches - a marked improvement from previous year. After Hero finished, the camera went back to Seacrest.

She performed at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

She was reportedly paid $3.5 million for her performance, which lasted around ten minutes.
