'Game of Thrones' finale to be released in 2019

The final season of the show is currently in production so there will be plenty of time to try to spoil how it all shakes out between now and then.

Fans were eagerly waiting for the season finale as it is expected to reveal which of the warring families in the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros will win the multigenerational struggle for control of the mega Iron Throne.

HBO did not specify which month when making the announcement, but confirmed the popular show would return in 2019 for a six-episode final season. Benioff and Weiss executive produce along with Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield.

NEW YORK -"Game of Thrones" fans will be disappointed to hear that the show won't be coming back in 2018. They will collaborate on the six-episode, eighth and last season. The others have all had roles creating the mythical world of author George R.R. Martin.

The budget for the final episodes of the hit series is much bigger than the standard for expensive TV episodes, with each episode costing $15 million apiece.

The statement continues: "David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik will be the directors for the new season".

The news comes on the same day it emerged Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin has seen another of his books, Nightflyers, given the greenlight by Syfy in the USA and Netflix internationally. Some of its seven episodes were more than an hour long.
