Indian man with wife beside, gropes USA woman, arrested

In yet another shocking incident, an Indian-origin man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 22-year-old girl who was sleeping beside him on board a Spirit Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Detroit early on Jan 3.

Police arrested Prabhu Ramamoorthy as soon as the flight arrived at Detroit Metro Airport Wednesday morning on suspicion of aggravated sexual abuse. According to the complaint, 34-year-old Prabhu Ramamoorthy reportedly unbuttoned the 22-year-old victim's shirt and stuck his hand in her trousers while she was asleep against the plane's window.

The woman instantly detailed the claims to flight orderlies, who said she "showed up obviously irritated and was crying", as per the dissension.

The suspect initially told authorities that he had been asleep and did not know where his hand had been, but later told another investigator that he "might have" unhooked the woman's bra and put his hands on her breasts over her shirt.

Both Ramamoorthy and his wife gave lengthier statements later indicating that the pill Ramamoorthy had taken was "plain Tylenol". She woke up and reported the alleged attack around 5.30 am.

Ramamoorthy's wife told officials, 'they had called the flight attendants to try to change seats.

Flight attendants say that never happened.

Ramamoorthy has been working as a project manager at a technology group for about two and a half years. "He was brazen enough to do this basically in public, next to his wife where anyone could have seen him".

"It seems that she's (wife) either colluding with the defendant to cover up his actions or she's completely oblivious to what he did", Jawad argued, according to Washington Post.

U.S. Executive Magistrate Judge R. Steven Whalen said the allegations were "odd", and counterintuitive, considering Ramamoorthy's wife was in the next seat during the incident.

O'Neill did not return a request for comment on Thursday.

According to a report by the Seattle Times, sexual harassment and abuse on airplanes is a largely unreported but prevalent issue for passengers.

According to the complaint cited by CBS Detroit, the shaken passenger immediately informed the flight attendant about the alleged assault.

In the United States, the number of sexual assault cases has only increased in the last few years.
