Samsung Exynos 9810 SoC goes official; everything you should know

Samsung Exynos 9810 SoC goes official; everything you should know

What the Exynos 9810 brings is third-generation custom CPU, faster gigabit LTE modem and better image processing with deep learning-based software.

Samsung Electronics Co. announced on January 4 that it has begun to mass produce its newest application processor for mobile devices, the Exynos 9 Series 9810, upgraded with a faster modem speed, more sophisticated image processing and stronger security.

However, the most interesting aspects of the Exynos 9810 is the presence of a "separate security processing unit", which would suggest there's a hardware-level spot for Samsung mobile devices to store biometric data.

Built on Samsungs second-generation 10nm FinFET process it's packing a brand new eight-core CPU under its hood, four of which are powerful third-generation custom cores that can reach 2.9GHz, with the other four optimized for efficiency.

According to Samsung, the new architecture widens the pipeline and improves cache memory, resulting in twice the performance in the single-core department and up to 40 percent in the multi-core department. Exynos 9810 is said to detect realistic face tracking alongside increasing the level of security while unlocking the handset using facial recognition. Samsung is also tapping neural networks to improve deep learning algorithms, meaning Exynos 9810-powered devices will be even better at recognizing people and specific elements in photos. ideal for the Central Intelligence Agency.

Samsung on Thursday unveiled its next-gen Exynos chip, the processor that will equip its flagships this year, including the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 9.

Connectivity features of the Exynos 9810 include a 1.2 Gbps Cat.18 Gigabit LTE modem with support for the industry's first 6x Carrier Aggregation (6CA).

Until further notice, we realize that the Exynos 9810 has a broad rundown of new increases and is, says Samsung, as of now in large scale manufacturing. It'll help other components do things like recognize people and other items in photos for searching or categorization, scan faces in 3D, and deploy multiple security features including facial, iris, and fingerprint. It supports 4K UHD video recording, 10-bit high efficiency video coding (HEVC) along with VP9, an open and royalty free video coding format developed by Google. It also features firewalls that isolate internal sub-systems from each other. Looks like Samsung is taking on both Huawei's Kirin 970's NPU capabilities and Apple's Face ID feature on their latest chip.
