Saints season-long dominance of Panthers continues in 31-26 wildcard win

Saints season-long dominance of Panthers continues in 31-26 wildcard win

They will need to win a third if they want to continue into the playoffs.

The Panthers play in New Orleans at 4:40 p.m. Sunday.

Brees completed 23-of-32 passes for 376 yards and two touchdowns, and looked like a former All-Pro and former Super Bowl winning quarterback, coming through big in the big moment. New Orleans is lead by a two-headed monster at running back between rookie standout Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.

CAM ON THE RUN: The Panthers have been better when quarterback Cam Newton runs the ball.

The 6-foot-7, 316-pound Peat was the Saints' first-round draft pick in 2015 out of Stanford, where he played left tackle. Since then, backup Case Keenum has excelled under center, and New Orleans' defense finished the regular season 10th in the National Football League in points allowed per game (20.4).

Will the Saints defeat the Panthers for the third time this season or will it be Ron Rivera's club who advances to the next round?

In the Panthers' previous seven trips to the postseason, the team has never entered the wild card round - or divisional round - having lost its regular season finale.

"It's hard to beat a team three times in a season", has been a popular refrain since the Saints were paired with the Panthers.

Marshon Lattimore has emerged as a first-class safety for the New Orleans Saints.

"We didn't get up for that game and that's on us. We're good. We're going to get up for this game for sure".

In the two meetings between these teams this year New Orleans won 34-13 and 31-21.

Cam Newton rolled up to his weekly press conference, brow furrowed, and spoke of added focus. If you have any questions or comments, make them during the program and we will try to use them. The Saints haven't lost a playoff game in the Superdome since 1992.

Stewart sat out last week's 22-10 loss to Atlanta with back soreness. Even for players who weren't on the team's last injury report, the bye week carried plenty of value. Despite the solid game, Coleman will be nothing more than a DFS punt next week in Minnesota.

"He's definitely going to do his thing, but we're going to go out there, we're going to execute and do our thing, too", Te'o said.

"It's a good thing and a bad thing on both sides of the ball", said Saints wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr., who has been on both sides of the ball with regard to this game.

Notes: LT Terron Armstead (thigh), DE Trey Hendrickson (ankle) and TE Michael Hoomanawanui (concussion) all practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday after not playing in Tampa Bay last Sunday.
