Samsung's new 8K TV features AI, can upscale video to 8K

LAS VEGAS-Samsung is going big at this year's CES show and that's not hyperbole, as one of the company's main displays is its new 146-inch MicroLED TV display the company has dubbed "The Wall".

MicroLED displays can provide their own light source meaning there's no need for girth adding backlights or filters, but at the same time, they tech apparently doesn't suffer from screen burn-in.

Camera IconSamsung US vice-president Dave Das unveils the new 146 inch TV screen known as The Wall.

The Micro LED technology contains Quantum Dots which reduces the problems of heat or color degradation.

Samsung also unveiled an 8K, 85-inch TV with artificial intelligence that can convert any video source into ultra high-definition.

Beyond its size, The Wall is a showcase for Samsung's newest display technology called MicoLED.

"At Samsung, we are dedicated to providing consumers with a wide range of cutting-edge screen experiences", said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

We're excited about this next step along our roadmap to the future of screen technology.

Pricing for the massive unit will not be announced until March, but it is expected to be more than $10,000, PC Mag reported.

In the First Look, Samsung as well came up featuring the first QLED TV with 8K AI technology. It lets consumers enjoy just about any movie or TV show on any channel in 8K resolution regardless of native resolution or method of transmission.

Also on show was Samsung Smart TV's enhanced connection and convenience functions, including Bixby - an intelligent assistant platform created to make it easier for you to interact with your TV. Employing a proprietary algorithm for resolution adjustment, it consistently improves image quality, and can "easily transform" any content from any source into 8K high-resolution! Another feature, the Universal Guide, will serve as a recommendation service for TV and other content. These areas gave guests at First Look 2018 the chance to get hands-on Samsung's most exciting innovations in TV.
