Arsenal set to step up pursuit of Thomas Lemar

Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with Monaco's Thomas Lemar in the January transfer window.

"Liverpool are also in the market for an attacker to replace Philippe Coutinho, who finalised a move to Barcelona at the weekend". Real Madrid are reportedly interested in the England striker and despite having a contract until 2021, Kane has told Spurs that they need to start winning trophies if they want to keep him.

The Mirror claim that Arsenal had a £90m bid accepted on deadline day as they looked to find a replacement for Man City-bound Alexis Sanchez but Lemar felt it was too late to push through a move so chose to stay at Monaco.

Lemar is regarded as one of the most exciting young midfielders to have emerged out of France in recent years, thanks largely due to his exploits for Monaco last season.

Speaking to the media this week, Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim refused to rule out a sale this transfer window. While Leonardo Jardim had, last week, claimed that there's no way that he will be sold in January, but his latest comments suggest that the 22-year-old "could" move.

After contributing to 31 goals in all competitions for Monaco last season (14 goals, 17 assists), the Frenchman has endured a slightly more subdued time on the pitch this campaign, scoring twice and making four assists in Ligue 1.

"We don't usually sell in winter, but the transfer window is open until the end of the month, and you have to prepare yourself for anything and everything", Jardim said. With surging interest of the top clubs in their prized possession, Monaco have chose to encash big on Lemar and have demanded a whopping £90 million for his services.
