Billionaire Tom Steyer to invest $30 million into midterm elections

Billionaire Tom Steyer to invest $30 million into midterm elections

Steyer, a Democratic mega-donor and environmental activist, announced Monday the launch of the most extensive youth-organizing program in American history, with a commitment to spend $30 million in at least ten states, including Florida, this fall ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.

Steyer is a former hedge fund manager who has invested some of his wealth into an array of political causes, most notably fighting climate change. Last year, he collected millions of signatures calling for Trump's impeachment and paid for billboards in New York's Times Square as part of a $20 million ad campaign urging Congress to act.

Steyer was the biggest individual political donor in the 2016 election, and his decision removes some uncertainty for California's races for governor and U.S. Senate. He demanded Democratic lawmakers and candidates pledge to push for the impeachment of Trump if they take control of Congress this year, but a Demember vote to move forward on impeachment received votes from just 58 out of 435 members of the House, bringing Steyer's tab to $344,827.59 per vote. Darrell Issa (Calif.) and Barbara Comstock (Va.) as candidates his 2018 effort will focus on.

The Washington Post first reported on Steyer's plans.

His ultimate goal is to have Trump removed from office.

Steyer, who has repeatedly flirted with running for office in 2018, had recently said he was weighing a challenge against Sen.

ADVERTISEMENTWolff's book claims Trump did not expect to win the presidency and depicts Trump as incompetent and unwilling to listen to his advisers. "By my count, Donald Trump has committed at least eight impeachable offenses".
