Apple's Latest Vulnerability is the 'Text Bomb'

Apple's Latest Vulnerability is the 'Text Bomb'

Discovered by Abraham Masri, the chaiOS bug is another "text bomb" that when sent to other users will crash that person's iMessage application in a continuous loop.

Beware: Apple iMessage "text bomb" can cause your iPhone to crash and here's how it works.

A software developer has dicovered a shocking new security flaw, "text bomb", which can reportedly crash any iPhone just by a text message. Although the bug does not cause permanent damage, it will cause restarts and multiple freezing.

As ever, the best method of defence against this kind of bug is to regularly update your phone, tablet and computer's software. Repeatedly. Your mobile device could even freeze for a few minutes, then respring, aka exit the app and send you back to the lock screen.

Masri admitted that he posted the link to get Apple's attention on the serious matter. The last time we saw a bug like this was in 2015 with Effective Bug. Masri claims to have reported the bug already. It can also cause the Safari internet search tool on the company's Mac laptops and desktops to crash. Described as the chaiOS bug, Apple now tells Buzzfeed that a fix is expected next week. The vulnerability test is not done on the latest iOS 11.2.5 beta 6 so far.

iMessage preloads links to webpages when opened so that it can show the users a preview of the page.

"My GitHub is publicly accessible, so anyone can copy [the code]".

With no fixes available yet, Apple device users are at an alert and cautious of the messages hitting their smartphones.

This bug, while not a security issue, is a problem for Apple following the root access flaw in its High Sierra OS for Mac computers.
