Amazon Prime increases cost of monthly membership

Amazon Prime increases cost of monthly membership

Existing monthly Prime and Prime Student members will pay the new price for renewals happening after February 18, 2018. In October previous year, Netflix announced that it was raising prices for its standard service from $9.99 to $10.99 per month, and the price of its premium tier from $11.99 to $13.99 per month. It also makes it more convenient to shop using Amazon Prime, since the two-day shipping is included. For those doing the math, this means that keeping a monthly Prime subscription for one year will cost them $156. That plan also includes Amazon Prime free two-day shipping, video and music streaming services, Prime Reading and unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos. If, on the other hand, you're only subscribed to Amazon Prime Video or you have a discount for Amazon Prime because you're receiving government assistance, your monthly price won't be going up.

In spite of the cost increments for month to month Prime enrollments, the cost of a yearly participation will remain at $99 and month to month Prime Video enrollment will stay at $8.99.

Amazon introduced the monthly Prime plan in the United States in early 2016 as an alternative to the relatively high cost of its annual fee, which it raised from $79 to $99 in early 2014.

Amazon Prime just got more expensive.

The new monthly price went into effect on 19 January for new members.

The fee kicks in today for new members. The monthly student rate increased to $6.49 from $5.49.

The reason? Prime is becoming more valuable. Its members tend to spend far more on the site than non-Prime users.

Prime subscribers tend to do more shopping with the company.

Thank you for being a valued member of Amazon Prime.
