Jose Mourinho explains why Manchester United need Premier League star Alexis Sanchez

Manchester United are poised to unveil Sanchez as their new player this afternoon, and Arsenal will follow suit with Mkhitaryan.

United boss Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, said a deal to sign Sanchez was "close" following his side's 1-0 win at Burnley on Saturday.

Wenger had initially included Sanchez in his travelling party to face Crystal Palace this weekend, but on Friday night it emerged that the former Barcelona star had been left out and was instead ready to undergo a medical with United.

Sanchez posted an Instagram Story video on Sunday morning of him boarding a private jet at Biggin Hill ahead of flying to Manchester.

United hijacked the bid from Manchester City with a more lucrative offer for the Chilean, but Wenger admitted that he "cannot understand" the 29-year-old's desire to leave the Emirates Stadium.

When questioned about the deal, Wenger told a news conference: "I respect Manchester United because they generate the money they pay to the players with their own resources so you have to respect that".

United, who have not won the Premier League title since 2013, are second in the table but trail Manchester City by 12 points - a gap that looks impossible to breach even with four months of the season to run.

However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is one man that can not understand it. In short, both clubs seem to be signing a player who will slot well into their existing system.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is scheduled to come the other way in a swap deal, having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford this season.

There have been a lot of young players, he's managed them and they've done very well.

"I think that also gets through to the player".

"As long as it is not over the line you can not say it will happen".

"The deal happens only one way, if the other way happens as well, that's why it takes longer as well because it has to be co-ordinated".

Reports in Germany say striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be on his way to Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund.
