Grumpy Cat sued a coffee company… and won

A judge in California ordered Grenade to pay Grumpy Cat Limited $750,000 in damages alongside a $1 nominal damage fee for breaking the terms of an agreement over the use of Grumpy Cat's image, The Guardian reported.

The owners had originally granted Grenade limited rights to the brand for a branded iced-coffee called "Grumppuccino".

However the Grenade beverage company continued to use images of Grumpy Cat to endorse other items it was selling, without Bundesen's consent. $710,000 is a lot of money for most of us but not for the cat and her owner as reports say that she has earned a lot of money since becoming an internet celebrity.

Grumpy Cat Limited sued Grenade Beverages in 2015 claiming the company breached their contract by creating a line of unauthorized coffee products and t-shirts.

Grumpy Cat will forever be remembered as one of the most famous memes of all time. The company filed a copyright lawsuit against the beverage company in federal court. "Their suit charged that Grumpy Cat Limited dropped the ball on promotion and support for the coffee line".

The cat's perpetually sad and unique expression is said to be caused by feline dwarfism and an underbite - when the lower jaw extends forward.

She has travelled the world making television appearances and in 2014, the cat even starred in her own Christmas film. The coffee brand had also countersued them and said how the cat was not allowed to be a part of social media promotion and they also complained how the cat also didn't appear in a movie as planned.

She also has 1.42 million followers on Twitter, 2.4 million on Instagram and nearly nine million likes on Facebook.

'Grumpy Cat feels vindicated and feels the jury reached a just verdict, ' said Grump Cat Ltd. lawyer, David Jonelis.
