Rep. Joe Kennedy III of MA will deliver the Democratic response to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address next week.

In a news release, U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called Guzman a "respected civic leader whose values-based message propelled her to victory in the recent Virginia elections". Robert F. Kennedy and grand-nephew of the slain U.S. President John F. Kennedy and the late Sen.

"His leadership has been vital in educating a next-generation workforce, in creating good-paying manufacturing jobs and in expanding opportunities for the middle class".

Kennedy represents a younger wave of Democrats in a party that some have criticized for its older leaders and potential 2020 presidential contenders who are all in their 70s. Ted Kennedy, delivered the State of the Union response in 1982. The program, "Angela Rye's State of the Union", is part of a broader partnership announced just days ago between the network and the Democratic strategist and political commentator.

Kennedy, 37, is now serving his third term representing Massachusetts's 4th Congressional District, which covers parts of Bristol, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth and Worcester counties.

Virginia Delegate Elizabeth Guzma will deliver the Democratic response in Spanish. The minority party's response is typically delivered on national television immediately following the president's speech.

The Hill also reported that the SOTU will be preceded by another anti-Trump event scheduled for Monday night: "A group of anti-Trump celebrities, including Mark Ruffalo and Whoopi Goldberg, have also announced plans to hold a "People's State of the Union" as a counter-event on Monday night".

They say Kennedy is "a relentless fighter for working Americans".
