Day two of the HSBC Sydney Sevens Men's tournament saw the completion of round robin Pool play with the four pool winners and the runners-up qualifying for the Cup quarter-finals on day three.

But Tom Lucas crossed for the home side with a minute left on the clock and the Australians held on to win 24-21.The other quarter-finals feature Pool B winners Argentina against Pool C runners-up England and South Africa, who topped Pool C, against Kenya.

The Aussie women have not beaten New Zealand in a major tournament since the Olympic gold medal match in Rio in 2016.

It was a frustrating result, with New Zealand leading the Olympic champions 17-14 and in possession with 10 seconds remaining.

England had got their campaign Down Under off the flawless start as they beat Dubail finalists U.S. 28-24 in pool B, as Breach scored two tries on her first appearance since switching to the sevens programme full-time.

"They've always thrived (under pressure) and this year we're fitter and in a good mental space but against New Zealand, current world champions and on fire, it's going to be an epic game". "We've still go a lot to learn and a lot to fix up but it as a good first game. When you play against Aussie, it's usually the team that makes less errors".

Wins against Canada and United States of America meant Australia topped their pool and set up a mouth-watering clash with New Zealand.

"I think it's just unbelievable where the game's come from, where it's going, where it can go, ' he said".

"It's feeling exactly like Dubai, so hopefully we can go all the way", Pelite said.

"It's a pretty special thing to be able to be part of and to see it grow and we'd like to perform for ourselves first but then be nice to show and put on some entertainment for the people that have supported us all the way through".

New Zealand were equally impressive in their semi-final today, though.
