Winter Weather Advisory Goes Into Effect at Six Tuesday Night

A Winter Weather Advisory for 3 to 6-inches of snow area-wide is in effect for this afternoon and evening (Noon to Midnight CST) with snowfall rates looking to peak around the late afternoon/early evening commute.

Total wet snow could reach up to an inch, and there could be a trace of ice accumulations that may be less than one-tenth of an inch. Southwest wind 7 to 10 miles per hour becoming northwest after midnight. The snow could pick up again Thursday night, lasting through Friday night.

Chance of precipitation? 100 percent! West wind 6 to 9 miles per hour. The forecast from late this morning (an update is expected just before 4 p.m.) shows about four inches of snow falling on the western third of Sussex County with less to the east and south. Conditions will be cloudy with a high near 33 and a north wind of 6-9 miles per hour.

"As for today's snow, the light showers will taper off by lunchtime, with most locations seeing between 1" to 3" of snow.

No snow, rain, sleet or the like are forecast for Thursday and Friday, with highs in the lower 30s.




In the central and eastern states, another round of snow, rain and thunderstorms is expected during the first half of the week.

Heading into Tuesday, 69.8 inches of snow has fallen at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

The snow, which may add up to 4 inches, could be coated by ice, the NWS said.
