Australia beat England by 7 wickets in T20 tri-series match

England were waiting to find out the seriousness of the injury to captain Eoin Morgan which ruled him out of the T20 in Melbourne, but stand-in skipper Jos Buttler hoped a change of scenery would help them revive their tri-series campaign when they cross the Tasman, and give them the chance of seeking revenge on Australia in the final.

"The beauty of a tri-series is we still have a chance to make the final", Buttler said.

Jos Buttler was the top scorer for England with 46 runs.

The triumph at the MCG was Australia's third in as many matches, beating New Zealand in Sydney before back-to-back victories against England.

Buttler was then caught from the final ball of the innings aiming a huge straight drive as England closed on a massively sub-par 137-7.

But also, in the lead up to the 2020 T20 World Cup, Warner is, for just about the first time in his career, not an automatic selection in the side.

On Saturday, Australia beat them by seven wickets in Melbourne.

Glenn Maxwell, who scored a stunning century in the five-wicket triumph last time out, top scored again for his side with 39 as the hosts chased down England's 137-7 easily.

"We haven't showcased our ability as we know we can yet and there's guys in that dressing room who'll be determined to come back strong".

However, three wickets in the next three overs, ending with Warner brilliantly running out Dawid Malan (10) with a direct hit, stopped them in their tracks and they never recovered.

England's risky batting approach was again exposed with aggressive openers Jason Roy and Alex Hales both falling cheaply.

"We didn't quite soak up the pressure early on with the bat and then we never really kicked on. I'll have to improve and look at where I went wrong".

From there Australia's innings accelerated, as D'Arcy Short compiled a fine 36 not out, with Chris Lynn piling on 31 and Maxwell's fluent knock featuring two maximums, as he became the fourth Australian to pass 1,000 T20 worldwide runs.

Lynn was in no mood to play it safe following the early wicket though, as he took the attack to Willey and fellow opener Tom Curran.
