Man wanted in kidnapping of Lowcountry 4-year-old arrested in Mississippi

Authorities are using helicopters and divers to search for a 4-year-old girl missing after her mother was found badly beaten in her SC home.

After confirming the driver was Thomas Lawton Evans, Jr., Chief Oliver got the 4-year-old out of the vehicle.

Oliver was the law enforcement officer who rescued Todd from Evans during an investigation of a vehicle in the woods in Riverside, Alabama.

At that point, the suspect gave the little girl to the police chief, telling them he had to get his ID from the vehicle.

Oliver said Todd was doing fine following the ordeal, watching cartoons and drinking chocolate milk. Police say the man is Thomas Lawton Evans, 37, who was released from prison February 1 and had allegedly kidnapped the girl from Johns Island, SC.

Heidi Renae Todd disappeared just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information on a 4-year-old girl who disappeared in SC.

Officials believe Heidi was taken Tuesday and was discovered missing when her mother didn't pick up the family's other children from school.

The father was on a Coast Guard training mission at the time of the incident.

Tecklenburg said the mother is in fair condition and has provided "limited information" to investigators.

Police & fire are searching area of 2985 Sweetleaf Lane for missing 4 year-old Heidi Renae Todd.

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the recovery of Todd.

"The individual was not invited into the residence", said Interim Charleston Police Chief Jerome Taylor earlier.

The four-year-old girl at the heart of a statewide search has been found alive in Alabama, sources close to the investigation tell us.

Around 5 p.m. Eastern Time, someone called police to report the vehicle being there as suspicious.

He's scheduled to be arraigned there on charges that he kidnapped his 4-year-old daughter, Heidi Todd, after attacking her mother with a knife and tying her up.

Police say an Amber Alert was not issued yet because the case didn't meet the criteria.
