36 hours after brutal attack, Congress MLA's son surrenders

KPCC president Dr G Paramaeswara tweeted Mohammed Haris Nalapad, general secretary of Bengaluru city Youth Congress, was expelled from the Congress party for 6 years.

Mohammed Nalapad Haris, son of ruling Congress lawmaker N.A. Haris, surrendered to the police on Monday, after he was booked for allegedly assaulting a man at a pub-cum-restaurant. This did not prevent the BJP from calling the incident an example of "lawlessness" in the state under Congress.

An embarrassed Congress was forced to expel MLA NA Haris' son Mohammad Nalapad on Sunday following a News18 report on an attack by the latter and his friends on a youth in an upscale Bengaluru restaurant. Nalapad and his friends got into an argument with Vidwath when they asked him to sit properly.

Vidvat has sustained a fracture on his nose, serious injuries on his eyes and face and is undergoing treatment in the ICU of Mallya Hospital. With the elections just around the corner, the Congress took moved swiftly and removed Nalapad from the party for six years.

"It is unfortunate that the incident has taken place. I will see that my son does not do anything like this again".

Based on Praveen's complaint, Cubbon Park police registered a case against Nalapad and 10 others under sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 147 (rioting) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. They also demanded that he should be charged with attempt to murder.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also said that offenders should be punished to the full extent of law regardless of who they are.

Nalapad's lawyer B Usman said he was named an accused on the basis of CCTV footage from a pub. I have always advised my son to never do anything wrong.

At the time of his surrender, there was a minor tussle between protesting BJP, JD (S) cadres and Congress supporters. After the incident, Haris had claimed that his6 son was hiding somewhere without his knowledge.
