David Moyes slams West Ham United pitch invaders in Burnley defeat

David Moyes has called on West Ham fans to unite and get behind their team after protests against the board erupted during their defeat to Burnley.

Tempers flared around the London Stadium when the Hammers went 3-0 down, and a spattering of home "fans" stormed the pitch.

"West Ham United have immediately launched a full and thorough investigation into the incidents which marred the second half of today's match and are committed to taking decisive and appropriate action", the club said in a statement on Saturday night.

There is no place at any level of the game for what happened at the London Stadium today.

While the Clarets have had a year to forget so far, they picked up their first win of 2018 last weekend, coming from behind to clinch victory for the first time this season.

"Overall I have worked higher up but I would say it's the most competitive it's been. Last couple of games - not so good". By that stage the action on the pitch had become nearly incidental with fans directing their anger at the club's chiefs. "But for the time I've been here, I've certainly enjoyed it".

The first pitch invasion came moments after Ashley Barnes gave Burnley the lead in the 66th minute.

Moyes added: "I think as a supporter you can't cross the line, as a supporter". We needed the supporters with us in a different way. We're not in the bottom three (now). Of course we can. None of us are daft that way.

"I was on the touchline looking on to the pitch, trying to get us back in the game".

"We are footballers and we are targets but we have got to protect ourselves".

Asked whether he was concerned over player safety being in jeopardy, Dyche told a news conference: "No, I don't think so". We are going to certainly have to defend better in the short periods that we are being put under pressure. They have ways of venting that [frustration]. So we need to find a way of making sure we're doing that. So we get back at it, we do the job.

"I don't think there's any malice in Noble getting hold of someone and Barnesy".

"It's a tough situation, I can sympathise with the fans". If we're not good enough, then that's something else.
