Putin 'couldn't care less' about Russia's interference in USA elections

Russian President Vladimir Putin told an American journalist that he "couldn't care less" if Russian citizens interfered in the 2016 United States presidential election. Maybe they're Ukrainians, Tatars, Jews, just with Russian citizenship.

"First, we have principles whereby we do not allow others to interfere in our domestic affairs and do not get into the affairs of others.Secondly, we don't have this quantity of tools", he said. "I couldn't care less because they do not represent the government". The president has called the investigation a "witch hunt", although aides have clarified he means the probe of any collusion has no merit.

He added that Russian Federation and the United States should sit down and talk things over in order to get them straight, according to a Kremlin transcript of the interview.

That's according to investigative reporters Michael Isikoff and David Corn's new book, "Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin's War on America and the Election of Donald Trump".

The indictment alleges that starting in 2014, the Kremlin-backed Russian Internet Research Agency tried to disrupt the USA political process and sow discord through stealing US identities and falsely claiming to be USA activists.

Vladimir Putin addresses 2016 election meddling in a new, exclusive, interview with Megan Kelly.

"We in Russia can not prosecute anyone as long as they have not violated Russian law", he said. Maybe they have dual citizenship or maybe a green card.

He claimed it was not Russia's "goal to interfere" and appeared incredulous at the charges, asking, "Could anyone really believe that Russian Federation, thousands of miles away.influenced the outcome of the election?" "At least send us a piece of paper".

"It's not our goal to interfere. You made a decision, at the level of parliament, at the level of Congress and put Russian Federation on your list of enemies", he said. "And we'll take a look at it".

A former senior Obama administration official involved in White House deliberations on Russian Federation has since said: "I feel like we sort of choked".

Putin said that the indicted individuals are "not working for the government", and suggested instead, "perhaps some of them worked for one of the [other American presidential] candidates".

There are fears Russian hackers are planning to attack Britain's infrastructure and Armed Forces Minister Mark Lancaster says the United Kingdom would respond in kind.
