Siri bug in iOS 11 enables access to hidden notifications

Siri bug in iOS 11 enables access to hidden notifications

The operation was possible even though you have set your notifications hidden on the lock screen.

Simply ask Apple's voice assistant to read your notifications and it'll comply with a full rundown of your freshly received email, WhatsApp messages, and Facebook alerts, reports Brazilian site Mac Magazine. However it should be noted that this only seems to affect third-party apps and services, and that Apple's own apps like Messages do not appear to have been affected by the bug.

We're not sure when exactly the fix will arrive, but it's possible that it might come in iOS 11.3, which is now in beta, or even possibly in iOS 11.2.7 if Apple were to release a minor update. The company said, "We are aware of the issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming software update".

However, a Mac Magazine reader discovered that Siri will read the content of most messages even though the content is hidden on the display. If in case you want to keep the notification on the lock screen, you can disable Siri when you lock your device.

To hide or show message content on the Lock screen, go into Settings Notifications, choose the app, select Previews and then choose your option. Interestingly, Siri does ask you to unlock the iPhone X if you ask it to read the last email or last note.

Have you endured any embarrassing moments courtesy of Apple's personal assistant?

Upon its release late a year ago, iOS 11 was widely viewed as one of the buggiest iOS releases in history. There is a toggle there that reads "Allow Siri When Locked". Luckily, Apple is aware of the issue and has promised it has a fix in the works.
