Apple might debut low-priced iPad with updated Pencil at Chicago event

According to Bank of America analysts, we may soon see a foldable phone from Apple - perhaps as a successor to the iPhone 11. This would be a change of pace for Apple who typically announces new products at scheduled events like WWDC or at their iPhone event in the later part of the year.

Senior analyst Wamsi Mohan met with Apple suppliers on Friday and told his clients about the new phone design. He also wrote that he expects the new iPhone models coming out this fall to be mostly unchanged compared to the iPhone X, though size changes may be expected.

"Our checks also suggest that Apple is working with suppliers on a foldable phone (that potentially could double up as a tablet) for launch in 2020", Mohan added.

The rumors regarding the release of a foldable phone from Apple surfaced originally past year when Apple was apparently working with LG in an effort to research foldable screen technology.

The key to this technology is found in the development of OLED panels. Can Apple do better?

LG Display had already completed the foldable OLED screen prototype as of Oct'17 and was upgrading its durability and yield rate at the time. Previous year in the month of December, a report emerged with the claims that the company was working on a 9.7-inch iPad priced at 300 dollars or less.

Apple is said to be launching a new iPad device next week. This new process will be a big leap from last year's 10-nanometer process implemented in the production of the A11 chip employed in the latest roster of iPhones, which includes the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X.

"An electronic device may have a flexible portion that allows the device to be folded". It would have a full-screen display with a flexible area in the middle that bends to separate the screen into halves (like a book). The other two companies have established their presence in the academic community by offering low-cost laptops and tablets. Furthermore, following the rumours and patents out there, it seems like foldable screens in the tech world could be the next form factor.

ZTE succeeded in releasing a foldable phone, the Axon M, but as noted by CNET, the device had a cumbersome design, and it's heavier than the usual smartphone.

From the looks of it, smartphone makers are trying to create a new trend in the smartphone industry, and it involves a foldable device.
