VK Singh in Iraq; bodies of 39 Indians to be brought today

On returning, he will first go to Amritsar followed by Patna and Kolkata to hand over bodies to their families.

According to media reports, Singh will visit Iraq in a special IAF aircraft, which will directly land at Amritsar in Punjab on April 2 with the mortal remains, which were exhumed from a mass grave in Badosh.

Meanwhile, a kin of one of the deceased Indian said that she hopes that the Indian government provides employment to the family of the ISIS-slain people. "As soon as we get a nod from Baghdad ambassador, we will leave with a C-17 plane to bring back the mortal remains with due honours", he said.

In order to conclusively verify the identity of the body suspected to be that of the 39th victim - Raju Kumar Yadav from Bihar - the government had recently sent a second DNA sample of Yadav's brother to Baghdad. "We can't bring the mortal remains of Raju Yadav but we will bring rest of the five to Patna".

As many as 40 Indians were abducted by the ISIS terror group from Mosul in Iraq but one of them escaped posing as a Muslim from Bangladesh, Swaraj had said in Rajya Sabha.

He said, "I am leaving for Iraq, will be getting back mortal remains of the 39 Indians".

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had informed Parliament on March 20 that all 39 Indian construction workers kidnapped in 2014 from Mosul have been killed.

The union minister had left for Mosul on Sunday afternoon. The remaining 39 were taken to Badoosh and killed.
