Tour Bus Crash-Masters,6th Ld-Writethru, US

A bus crash on I-20 near mile marker 186 and Exit 185 in Columbia County injured at least nine people Thursday morning, according the Georgia State Patrol. It's not clear if Hoppenbrouwer is an employee with the company or had been contracted to drive the bus.

The Masters Tournament, held each year at the Augusta National Golf Club, starts Thursday.

The bus driver, Steven Hoppenbrouwer, 61, of Gwinnett County, Georgia, was charged with DUI and a failure to maintain lane. Sgt. Chris Wright of the Georgia State Patrol said the driver ran off the right side, then overcorrected and caused the bus to overturn in the median.

Five of the 14 passengers taken a hospital in nearby Augusta have serious injuries, CBS affiliate KRDW reports.

The bus is owned by Jet Executive Limousine, Inc.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The driver of the bus, 61-year-old Steven F. Hoppenbrouwer, has also been charged for not wearing a seatbelt.




A total of 18 people were on the bus.

Plowman said the bus careened off the road and spun around one and a half times before skidding on its side a good distance.

A tour bus crashed en route to the Masters Thursday, causing 16 people to go to the hospital, according to WRDW.

Officials with Augusta University Medical Center have confirmed they have received seven patients from the crash so far.

Now we have 7 people in the hospital, instead of at Amen Corner eating a pimento cheese sandwich with an icy cold beer.

Authorities in east Georgia report a bus carrying 19 people has flipped on I-20 closing all eastbound lanes fo traffic.
