Although it cancelled the game, snow didn't dampen Cubs fans spirit as many spent the day in local bars and a few even ventured into "enemy territory" to watch the Sox play.

Furthermore, the Cubs were able to have some success against Nova last season, scoring 10 runs in 16 innings, and Nova struggled at Wrigley Field last season, serving up seven runs in 9.2 innings spread across two starts.

The Pittsburgh Pirates started the season as hot as anyone in the National League and so far are flawless on the road.

On his way to the ballpark, manager Joe Maddon had a feeling the game wasn't going to be played. "So I thought it was the right thing to do".

Player safety is "always a consideration", Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts said. But at the same time, you've got to be smart.

The Cubs' game against the Pittsburgh Pirates was postponed a day because of snow that covered much of Wrigley Field, creating a scene more reminiscent of January than April. It was just a snow-go.

"I woke up and saw everything going on", Maddon told reporters Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Pirates will likely start right-hander Ivan Nova, who was also assigned to pitch Monday.

Held scoreless for 22 consecutive innings and trailing 2-0 entering the fifth, the Brewers got a spark when reliever Josh Hader led off the inning with his first major league hit.

"It's a long season", Edwards said.

But seriously, Maddon was fine with Monday's postponement. "We don't have a problem with it". So guys like him, as you get a little bit older, save those moments for the game and that's the message with him and all the guys.
