Lewis Hamilton Frustrated at Mercedes F1 Team During Bahrain GP

The Ferrari driver clinched Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix, with Hamilton third, to follow up his success at the season-opening Australian GP.

When watching the incident back behind the podium Hamilton referred to Verstappen as "a dickhead", and speaking to the media after the race he said he felt the incident was "unnecessary".

But to the surprise of the journalist, Vettel jumped to Hamilton's rescue asking if he could answer the question.

Verstappen blamed Lewis for the incident but it was clear who was at fault.

" I trust he (Verstappen) is studying by means of those situations.

"Do you think, if you compare it to football, if you have a microphone on a footballer's mouth, that everything he says is something nice and it's a nice message when the guy tackles him and sometimes he fouls him?"

Having studied the telemetry data on his return to the garage, Verstappen uncovered a weird unexpected boost of power caused him to lose control. He managed to nurse his Red Bull to the pits for a tyre change, but a short while later, his vehicle failed and he was forced to retire.

Question: "Lewis, I believe, if my ears are correct, you used the word "d***head" after the race concerning Max Verstappen and the overtake and the contact".

He finished third under the floodlights as team-mate Valtteri Bottas took second place.

He is now seen as a champion-in-waiting whose speed, aggression and racecraft have won him many admirers but also led to run-ins with some of his rivals, most notably Ferrari pair Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. Not since Alain Prost in 1982 has a driver failed to win the title after winning the first two races of an F1 season.

"We're going to sit down and discuss it and try to work on the points and improve, and I have no doubt we will".

It looked like a nasty break and someone now surely faces a fight to get walk again.

"It's interesting to hear that from Christian because they've got a auto that should be getting good results", Hamilton said.

"It didn't feel like a respectful manoeuvre, but ultimately it was a silly manoeuvre for himself, because he didn't finish the race".

Sitting beside Vettel, who he battled in an often-fiery 2017 campaign, Hamilton did not address the journalist's remarks directly but went on to accuse Verstappen of showing a lack of "respect".

With Red Bull suffering a double retirement after Daniel Ricciardo lasted only two laps, sister team Toro Rosso capitalised, with Pierre Gasly finishing a surprise fourth.
