BJP eroding Ambedkar's legacy, PM Modi paying lip-service: Congress

Stressing that a fair probe was being conducted into the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua, the BJP on Friday alleged that the Congress was playing "dirty politics".

Mr Shah, who was addressing a convention of Shakti Kendra leaders of 33 Assembly constituencies of Belagavi division in Mudhol town, Bagalkot district kept up the relentless labelling of the state government as a "10 per cent Sarkar", observing that Mr Siddaramaiah was the only Chief Minister who wore a watch worth Rs 40 lakh "bought from bribe money".

She said the two BJP ministers should not have joined the protest. "There are some people who want to politicise such incidents, but as a woman, I believe and it is my request that victim-shaming should not be done", she said.

"This pressure is being built by those who are heading the Bar Council and Bar Associations", she claimed.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi noted that the Kathua and Unnao incidents can not be termed as "normal cases" and said these have shamed the nation. "They were secular then, but the BJP has vitiated the atmosphere so badly in Jammu and Kashmir that these individuals have now turned communal", Azad said.

In February, the girl's family moved the court seeking to include the MLA's name in the case.

"On April 3, her father was beaten by the MLA's supporters, on which he was booked by the police under the Arms Act".

"And all this while ignoring the strict action being taken by the state governments".

The prime suspect in the case has also been charged with bribing local police officials, including a Sub-Inspector and a Head Constable, to destroy evidence.

"The matter was referred to the CBI by the state government and the CBI has detained Sengar for questioning", she said.

Speaking at an event commemorating Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar's birth anniversary at the state Congress office in Jaipur, Pilot said BJP is misusing Dr Ambedkar's name for political gains.
