Sixers' Joel Embiid to remain sidelined for Game 2

Embiid had told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne prior to Saturday night's playoff opener that he was optimistic about playing in Game 2 or 3.

This marks the 10th straight game the all-star will miss since fracturing the orbital bone near his left eye and suffering a concussion against the New York Knicks on March 28.

The 7-footer wore the mask during pregame shooting drills and would need one in the postseason. "And it's been determined that he shall not play Game 2 for that reason.".

Joel Embiid's return will have to wait until Friday (AEST) at the earliest. Game 3 is Thursday in Miami.

"If it was my decision, I would play, but I can't get back out on the court if I don't have the OK from them", Embiid said. I've been able to do everything.

He's the first rookie in history to record that many points, rebounds and assists in their first playoff game. "We gonna see how it feels in the next couple of days". And I feel great.

Embiid's presence made the Sixers a better defensive team.

However, the Sixers didn't have a tough time without him in Saturday's 130-103 Game 1 victory over the Heat.

Philadelphia has handled Embiid's absence well.

Goran Dragic, returning to the starting lineup after missing the final regular season game with a sore knee scored 15 points for Miami, while James Johnson finished with 13.

Overall, Philadelphia has won 17 consecutive games.
