15-year-old boy among 4 killed by Israeli snipers in Gaza

15-year-old boy among 4 killed by Israeli snipers in Gaza

The European Union has urged the Israeli military to "refrain from using lethal force against unarmed protesters", after four Palestinians, including a teen-age boy, were killed by army fire in protests along Gaza's border with Israel.

In a tweet, United Nations envoy to the Middle East Nikolay Mladenov called the killing of a 15-year-old Palestinian boy during Friday's clashes along the Gaza border "outrageous" and demanded that the incident be investigated.

"Those cowardly leaders who hide behind woman and children and send them forward as human shields so they can continue to dig tunnels and carry out acts of terror against Israel", said Avigdor Lieberman.

However, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon called on the global body to condemn Hamas's use of children as a cover for their terror activities. "How does the killing of a child in Gaza today help peace?" As the numbers peaked during the afternoon Israeli soldiers called out warnings in Arabic over loudspeakers to anyone who approached the border fence.

Since late March, 32 Palestinians were killed and more than 1,600 wounded by Israeli army fire in these protests, according to Gaza health officials.

Erekat also accused Israel of murdering 15-year-old Palestinian Mohammad Ayoub during last Friday's rally in the Gaza Strip, saying "what is required is an investigation by Fatou Bensouda, the Attorney General of the International Criminal Court, instead of an internal probe by Israeli army". "Children must be protected from violence, not exposed to it".

U.S. Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt put out his own tweet: "A full investigation by Israel of Mohammed Ayoub's death is underway so that we will be able to understand what happened. This tragic incident must be investigated", he wrote.

The ministry reported that the number of injuries by Friday evening came to 729, including live bullets, tear-gas suffocation cases, and other wounds.

Israel says it has only opened fire when necessary to guard its border and prevent violence, but no Israelis have been wounded and its open-fire rules have come under scrutiny.

On Friday alone, 440 protesters were wounded by gunfire or needed treatment for tear gas inhalation, the ministry said.

Palestinian authorities claimed that Fadi was an expert in energy use and had contributed much to the field of electrical engineering and energy production, especially in Palestine, and had been targeted by Mossad because of this.

Several thousand Palestinians participated in the protests Friday, the fourth large-scale demonstrations since late March. The numbers could not be verified by Israel.

Palestine's ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour also renewed calls for a "transparent and independent investigation".
