Swamp Thing series from 'Aquaman' director James Wan announced for DC Universe

The newly announced DC Universe was revealed with a number of new logos of shows that will be brought over to their new streaming platform, including series such as Titans, Harley Quinn and Young Justice: Outsiders. Check out more official details from Warner Bros. below. DC Universe is the DC digital service that will make its debut in late 2018.

Swamp Thing is in development and expected to debut sometime in 2019 on DC Universe. According to The Hollywood Reporter report, Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica, Daredevil) and Gary Dauberman (It and its forthcoming sequel) will be co-writing the script and executive produce the series. The network has made a script-to-series order.

Swamp Thing will centre on comic book character Abby Arcane, created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, as she investigates a deadly virus emanating from a swamp.

That's right, DC Universe will be getting a series centered around Swamp Thing from James Wan's production company Atomic Monster. "But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp's mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous - and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all".

First up is Titans, the first live-action TV show starring Robin (Brenton Thwaites), Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft) and Beast Boy (Ryan Potter).

More recently, Swamp Thing continues to be a fan favorite in new DC Comics/Vertigo comics, appearances on animated series like Justice League Action and in animated features like Justice League Dark, and as a playable character in Injustice 2. Let's also not forget the short lived animated series in the early 90's produced by Fox and quickly taken off of schedule when they saw it wasn't doing very well and shipped it off to Canada. The character has starred in a 1982 live-action movie by Wes Craven, along with a previous live-action series from 1990-1993.
