Dancer controversy puts Ireland in with shot of Eurovision glory

Dancer controversy puts Ireland in with shot of Eurovision glory

The official Eurovision Song Contest YouTube channel has hundreds of videos of this year's contestants so you can get to know them before they take to the stage on Saturday (be warned, it might actually put you off watching...).

The easiest way to vote for your favourite act in the Eurovision Song Contest this year is by downloading the app onto your smartphone or tablet.

"Mango TV, a state broadcaster run by central China's Hunan province, pixelated rainbow flags and cut a performance by Irish singer Ryan O'Shaughnessy that included two male dancers portraying a gay relationship", the news agency reports.

Australia turned up in style with Guy Sebastian (the Aussie equivalent of Bruno Mars) and finished, impressively, in fifth place.

For the right to reach the final of the competition, fought participants from 18 countries, including the representative of Ukraine Melovin.

It's the first time in five years that Ireland will compete in the finals of the song contest, so we imagine a lot of people will be glued to the TV come tomorrow night.

The European Broadcasting Union, an alliance of public service broadcasters, says censorship "is not in line with the EBU's values of universality and inclusivity and our proud tradition of celebrating diversity through music".

The move comes after it censored an LGBT themed performance.

On Tuesday, May 8, China's Mango TV blurred a rainbow flag that appeared during Switzerland's performance and also made a decision to cut performances from Ireland and Albania.

As a result, China are therefore banned from airing tonight's semi-final and Saturday's grand final shows.

"It doesn't matter whether it's between two guys and two girls or a guy and a girl", he told the BBC. It also separately blurred tattoos from Albanian singer Eugent Bushpepa. Mango TV and China's TV and radio regulator did not reply to request for comment.
