Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen doesn't directly deny resignation report

Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen released a statement about the New York Times report that she was contemplating resigning her position after being "berated" by President Trump.

What Trump didn't note when conveying those orders, however, was that the US has a domestic and worldwide legal obligation to process any immigrant who comes to its borders seeking asylum.

Trump has become frustrated in recent weeks over growing numbers of illegal border crossings after a drop during his first year in office, the Times said, citing several officials. Two senior White House officials described Nielsen as upset after the meeting, but said they were unaware of such a letter or threats to resign.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was asked about the incident in Thursday's press briefing. But Trump has made little progress on building the wall, and a new report from Vox claimed that Trump failed to understand even basics about what the US government can do regarding border entries.

She added that there was some credence to Trump's frustration, citing "loopholes" and "lack of congressional inaction" that have prevented tougher border laws. Nielsen took the wide-reaching criticism of the administration's failures in this area personally, reportedly telling associates that if Trump was unhappy with her performance, she would leave. "I share his frustration", she said in a statement.

Instead, she told the newspaper that she will "continue to direct the department to do all we can to implement the president's security-focused agenda" as head of almost 20,000 department employees.

"Honduras, Mexico and many other countries that the U.S.is very generous to, sends many of their people to our country through our WEAK IMMIGRATION POLICIES".

Trump has also been frustrated with Nielsen, according to people familiar with the dynamic.

More than 10,000 of those 30,000 total cases of credible fear occurred when foreign nationals arrived at the ports of entry at the southern border, while more than 20,000 of the cases occurred when foreign nationals sought asylum by crossing the border illegally. He has also threatened to shut down the government by September 2018 if the Congress does not approve funding to make good on his campaign promise to build a wall on the southern USA border with Mexico.

Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen had to explain to Trump that he didn't have the power to completely shut down the border.

Trump repeatedly said during the 2016 campaign that the border wall, which would cost close to $25 billion, would be funded by Mexico - though Mexican officials have said repeatedly that they will not pay for the wall. This week, the Justice Department announced that it would be prosecuting 100 percent of illegal border crossings-a decision that will involve separating more families, removing children from their parents when they are apprehended and detained.
