Arizona softball to host regional

Moravian College softball won on Monday and advances to the NCAA D-III Super Regionals. The finals will be held May 25-29 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wisconsin.

This marks the eighth time in school history the Gamecocks have hosted a regional and the first time since 2002 the Gamecocks have been the top-seeded team. Joining Kentucky in the Lexington Regional will be Illinois-Chicago, Notre Dame and No. 16 MI. For the first time since 2014, the Tigers are not among the tournament's top 16 seeds.

The winners of the Norman Regional and Fayetteville Regional will face off in the NCAA Super Regional round.

The Pac-12 appeared to get more respect from the NCAA Tournament committee than the SEC. The Gamecocks finished 33-23 overall.

During its 30th varsity season in 2018, Notre Dame posted a 13-10 conference record in its fifth official campaign as an ACC member to place fifth in the regular-season conference standings before finishing as a semifinalist in last weekend's ACC Championship.

Auburn (40-15) and Kennesaw State (39-15) are the other two teams in the Tallahassee Regional and will begin the day with a game at 12:00 p.m.

The Titans received one of the two Pool B bids as the WIAC does not have an automatic qualifier this season.

Oklahoma was led by junior Blaine Hale, who shot his best 18-hole score of the spring season, a five-under-par 67, which tops the player leaderboard.

Notre Dame (32-21) received the number three seed in the NCAA Lexington Regional, and will face second-seeded MI on Friday at Noon (ET) on ESPN2 at John Cropp Stadium. The first session will be open to those entering grades 7-8 and the second is for those entering grades 9-12. LSU owns a 14-9 record against ULL.

SC (45-14) is the softball tournament's No. 9 seed, is ranked No. 12 in the most recent USA Today-National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll and reached the final of the SEC tournament before falling 3-1 to fourth-ranked Florida. It hit me hard this year when games were tight and I didn't not know how our young team would respond and the crowd got loud and electric and we scored runs. It is home of the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League as well as the Saints.
